The Los Altos School District (LASD) blends critical thinking and creativity to deliver a well-rounded learning experience for our community’s children. LASD is regularly ranked in the top 1% of all school districts in California. The funding LASD receives from public sources – including both federal and state governments as well as funds from local property and parcel taxes – are insufficient to allow LASD to provide this rich educational experience on their own. To make up for this shortfall, the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) and the local school PTAs in the District work closely together to bridge the funding gap so that a superior education is provided to all children at their individual campuses.

To understand how Covington functions, it is helpful to understand how these three organizations work together:

LASD

• Provides core curriculum, core facilities, and core staff/teachers

LAEF

• Provides funding for essential teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and the Arts. Each year, LAEF raises money to ensure these programs are provided at every school. The annual grant can be seen at work by many of the wonderful staff who support Gardner Bullis, such as our PE teacher, librarian, CHAC counselor, music teachers, and more.
• LAEF has pledged to raise $2.8M in 2022-23 to fund teachers and staff for programs like STEM, Computer Science, PE, mental health counseling, librarians, music, art, and junior high electives, benefitting all TK-8 students at every school in LASD.
• Parents are encouraged to donate $1,200 or $120 per month per student to LAEF this school year. Gifts of any amount are appreciated! Learn more and donate here.

Covington PTA

• Provides funding for any remaining shortfalls as well as volunteers to facilitate and/or assist with special school programs & events.  The donations to the PTA can pay for things as far ranging as a marker in a classroom or a bus for a school field trip, to the new Media Lab installed last year. A PTA volunteer may be an individual grandparent reading a book for 15 minutes in their grandchild’s classroom or 50 PTA parents taking a day off from work to facilitate Field Day in June.
